Have you or your children even before navigated a kite?  Learn how at this memorable family friendly event coming up the second Saturday of March.  Hopefully, March winds will prevail.

The family friendly events kick off on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at LBJ State Park from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Free.  Texas Parks & Wildlife Department supplies the materials and enthusiasm to help kids let their creations soar.  As we said, kites from home also welcome.

This is also a great time to find out the history of kite flying and facts about kites before flying one. Just come with inquisitiveness, an interest in learning about them and be willing to send yours or an old-fashion 1900s model into the skies.

Tour the LBJ Ranch

Stonewall TexasAt the same time, learn more about President Johnson, an enthusiast of air travel, and his involvement in the NASA Space program.  The Lyndon Baines Johnson State Park and Historic Site south of Fredericksburg in Stonewall Texas provides the opportunity to dig in to exhibits and the natural surroundings.  Across the Pedernales River from the LBJ State Park is the LBJ Ranch.  It is part of the LBJ National Historical Park.

Take a self-guided tour of the Ranch.  Start at the LBJ State Park Visitor Center.  It is a history lesson par excel lance.

  • Check out the adjoining Behrens Cabin built in the 1870s.
  • Peek into the Junction School that President Johnson attended in 1912.
  • View the Texas White House in Johnson City.
  • Go through the pasturelands and see the historic Hereford cattle.
  • Head out on the nature trail to see the botanical exhibit and wildlife enclosures.

Stonewall TexasMar 11-18, 2017 – Spring Break at Pioneer Museum:  Frontier-style living history family fun, hands-on activities, demonstrations, reenactments, storytelling.  At Pioneer Museum, 325 W Main Street, Fredericksburg TX. 10a-5p. Fee: $5 adults.

Mar 11-18, 2017 – Texas Hell Week:  50-mile, 70-mile, and 100-mile bicycle tours of Gillespie County. Starting at Sunset Inn, 900 S Adams, Fredericksburg TX. Bicycle tours every day.

If you come from out of town, come early.  The Original Texas Star Trail Ride and American Airlines DC-3 Flagship Detroit will be held the week before.
