Fredericksburg Tops 10 Best Places to Live in Texas

FredericksburgCasual yet somewhat sophisticated, Fredericksburg Texas captures the heart.  The latest honor comes from Movoto.  Fredericksburg ranked #1 Best Places to Live in Texas. The small Texas Hill Country Hamlet outperformed hundreds of other communities from the Lone Star State with populations over 10,000.

A Friendly Country Community

On full display is the strong German heritage in Fredericksburg.  Boasting hundreds of charming shops and eateries, live entertainment, and the Museum of World Peace, the vibrant historic city oozes with both culture and camaraderie.  Here are a few demographics. The population of Fredericksburg in 2016 totaled 11,094. The median age is 52.2. The community is largely European and Hispanic.

The study looked at measurable criteria.  Fredericksburg boasts an awesome number of amenities, beautiful neighborhoods, golf courses and recreation, etc.  A broad range of elements contribute to the quality of life.  These include cost of living (107) median home price, median rent, median household income, and student-to-teacher ratio.  Rate of crime, sales taxes, income taxes, and unemployment came into play.   Commute times, the moderate weather, and great air quality also boosted Fredericksburg’s scores.

History Melds the Community

Founding father Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach aka John O. Meusebach led 120 German immigrants to the Fredericksburg settlement in 1846.  They came to secure land purchased through Mainser Adelsverein, the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas which sought to settle the Texas wilderness.  Settlers coming to town received a plot of land intown and 10 acres outside town.  Descendants of early families remain in the area today.
