4-H Achievers from Fredericksburg Texas Ranches and Small Acreage

4-H Achievers from Fredericksburg Texas Ranches and Small Acreage

Fredericksburg Texas RanchesGillespie County 4-H students came out ahead during this season’s competitions.  Most of their families enjoy homes and ranches in the Fredericksburg Texas ranches and small acreage market.  The local 4-H organizations serve young people from elementary school age through high school to decide on and pursue individual projects, gain skills and education, and raise livestock, sheep, and horses.  They shine during the Gillespie County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Auction.

2015 Gillespie County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show

This is one of the best county shows held anywhere in Texas.  An enthusiastic segment of the community – including judges, volunteers, buyers, attendees, and sponsors – assisted more than 300 area youth.  Youth included:

  • Gillespie County 4-Hers:  215
  • Fredericksburg Junior FFA members:  38
  • Fredericksburg FFA members:  42
  • Harper FFA members:  16

Fredericksburg Texas RanchesThe group entered 775 animals that do very well on Fredericksburg Texas ranches and farms.  Entries included swine, meat goats, lambs, breeding sheep, broilers, turkeys, steers, heifers, and Angora goats.

The 2015 event proved outstanding in many ways.  It ran from Thursday through Saturday, January 8-10.  The Saturday auction in Exhibition Hall experienced record sales of over $940,000 for 308 units.  In 2014, 299 units sold for a record $667,016.  In 2013, 297 units sold for a record $523,227.  A story in the Fredericksburg Radio Standard (1/14/2015) said this year’s sales included 42 pens of broilers purchased for $85,250 and 17 of turkeys for $46,670.
