Texas Hill Country Real Estate in New Braunfels

Like Hill Country Fredericksburg Texas real estate, New Braunfels embodies a distinctly German flavor.  Ninety minutes southeast of our SAGE Fredericksburg real estate offices, historic downtown New Braunfels real estate grew out of the same German immigration as did Fredericksburg.  Led to the area by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels in 1845, the group of German Freethinkers immigrated to Texas Hill Country land, fleeing the political and religious tyranny in their homeland.

New Braunfels TX land and homes are conveniently located off Interstate 35 in Comal and Guadalupe counties, south of Austin and north of San Antonio real estate and employment.  Over 50,000 residents live full time in New Braunfels TX homes.  The community offers excellent schools, scenic rivers, a charming Main Plaza, and beautiful neighborhoods.

A wonderful tourist spot, New Braunfels features abundant water and braunfels or “brown rocks,” similar to the terrain in Braunfels, Germany.  One of the shortest rivers in the world, the three-mile Comal River, bursts out of the artesian springs of the Edwards Aquifer before flowing through New Braunfels.  The Comal empties nearby into the Guadalupe River.

Many residences and vacation homes perch on tall bluffs overlooking the dramatic Hill Country terrain and Texas ranches.  Such lush waterways are home to the famous riverside Schlitterbaun WaterPark Resort, a major Texas destination.  During autumn, New Braunfels hosts Wurstfest, a national event and sausage festival that celebrates the German heritage.

New Braunfels is the county seat of Comal County.  The vibrant downtown features a chiming bell tower, century-old bubbling fountain and Romanesque designed courthouse.  Within the city limits is Gruene, a prosperous old town listed on the National Register of Historic Districts.  Gruene flourished in its location along two railroads, in an era long before cars and trucks entered the scene.

Close to metropolitan amenities such as educational and medical facilities, sporting venues, diverse employment, music, theater, art and other cultural venues, and renowned landmarks, the community offers much.  Recreation in the Texas Hill County includes mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, hunting, fishing, golfing, rafting and tubing, horseback riding, boating, and swimming.

The adventurous, during daytrips or weekend getaways from primary residences in the area, discover hundreds of Bed & Breakfast establishments, the Hill Country Wine Tour, harvests of peaches and apples, wildflower trails, summer camps, music festivals, and a collection of friendly small communities.

The New Braunfels and Comal independent school districts serve students in the area.
