Doss Texas 20 Miles NW of Fredericksburg Real Estate

Twenty miles northwest of our Fredericksburg Texas real estate offices, the quaint Hill Country community of Doss TX homes offers property owners a scenic outpost for full time living and vacations.  Located off Highways 783 and 648, Doss Texas ranches and homes, sprawling estates on splendid TX  land lots, and small cottages and cabins alike are suited to the noble terrain around Doss.

Doss is in Gillespie County, about a 90-minute drive from principal residences and employment in metro Austin and San Antonio TX real estate.  Hill Country real estate in Doss includes ideal Texas hunting ranches with turkey, white-tailed deer, and wild hog.  Come see properties and try out your turkey calling at Crenweige Ranch or Panther Creek Ranch.

Historic Fredericksburg real estate—with its live theater, acclaimed restaurants, galleries and Historic Main Street—serves as the hub for the farm and ranching communities.  Fredericksburg offers medical and educational facilities, shops and stores, professional services and great community events.

In Doss, no one is nameless or faceless.  Each is special to the town of 100 residents.  Everyone’s out for the annual fish fry sponsored by Doss Volunteer Fire Department, for the 4-H bake sales, and for the children’s plays.  Mountain biking through Texas Hill Country offers fresh air and views forever.  During the JDRF road Race in Doss, bikers go south in a smooth 22 to 26 mile “breathtaking” experience.

Special events such as the reenactment of the Battle of Iwo Jima, sponsored by Fredericksburg’s National Museum of the Pacific War, highlight natural formations like Wedge Point, which overlooks the community.  According to one visiting group, Doss is the place for “family, friends, and food.”

Named for the Doss brothers, Tom and John, who settled in 1849, Doss began with a gristmill and distillery, a dam and sawmill.  After William F. Lange took over the Doss mill, the community continued production and honors the milling heritage on Langis Mill Road.  The community today boasts two churches, a general store, and a fire station.  Its two-room schoolhouse is the only unconsolidated rural school in Gillespie County.
