Talk Rocks at Fredericksburg Hill Country Gem Mineral Show

Coming up this weekend, the rock-loving residents of Fredericksburg homes, Texas ranches and communities out to Kerrville, Austin and San Antonio meet to “talk rocks” at Lady Bird Johnson Park.  The Fredericksburg Rockhounds proudly host the 42nd Annual Hill Country Gem Mineral & Fossil Show at the Pioneer Pavilion.  It is located on Highway 16, three miles south of historic Downtown Fredericksburg TX real estate.

Interested in Minerals, Fossils, Meteorites, Gems, Jewelry, Exhibits, Demonstrations, Rock Experts, Talking about Rocks, or Gold Panning?  Many retirees chose Fredericksburg homes to get involved with interesting organizations like the Fredericksburg Rockhounds.  After all, real estate in Fredericksburg TX is only a few miles south of Enchanted Rock State Park and Texas Hill Country land is full of finds.

The 42nd Annual Hill Country Gem Mineral & Fossil Show features family friendly demonstrations, displays, merchandise, and games.  There is no admission charge for visitors and the Fredericksburg Rockhounds will give away free hourly door prizes and will raffle off valuable Grand Prices.  Wearing yellow vests, the Rockhounds will be easily recognizable at the Gem Miner & Fossil Show.  They volunteer to set up, take down, host, hand out door prizes, sell raffle tickets, and sign up new members.

Show times are:

Saturday, January 15, 2011  9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sunday, January 16, 2011 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Buzzys BBQ will serve soft drinks, coffee, snacks, and meals.  Spaces are filled for the inside dealer and member areas.  Several Rockhounds donated prizes.  Sample prizes include beautiful wire-wrapped jewelry, fluorescent mineral specimens, a rock tumbler and kit, and a great book.

In addition, the Rolling Rock Club (the RV rockhounds) plans to meet Sunday morning at 9:00 at the Pioneer Pavilion to auction off some favorite treasures.

The purpose of the Fredericksburg Rockhounds is to share knowledge and appreciation of gems, minerals, fossils, natural wonders and the art of jewelry making through education, field trips, and at the annual Hill Country Gem Mineral & Fossil Show.  The organization is affiliated with the American Federation of Mineral Societies and the South Central Federation of Mineral Societies.  Other gem shows in the southwest include Quartzsite AZ, Tucson AZ, Big Spring TX, Live Oak San Antonio TX, Alpine TX, and Waco TX.
