How Fredericksburg Texas Began

Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants.  Baron von Meusebach renounced his noble title to become Texan John O. Meusebach or El Sol Colorado by Penateka Comanche Chief Ketemoczy.  They coexisted in peace and friendship sharing the land.

On April 23, 1846, Meusebach brought the first wagon train of settlers to a newly surveyed area at Barons Creek and Town Creek.  He named it in honor of Prince Frederick of Prussia.  Imagine disembarking on the Gulf of Mexico and then traveling north to find a new place to settle.  It took a hardy bunch.  Tales of their contributions to the community and parts of the original families are still present.

Fredericksburg is hearty, too.  Born of the hard-working ingenuity of its forebears, the Town of Fredericksburg maintains classic Historic Districts with destination attractions for all ages.  Come by during Oktoberfest or the Easter Fires which celebrate the coming of spring.  You just might find Fredericksburg a great place to raise a family or retire.

Directions

From Main Street in Fredericksburg, proceed southwest on South Adams Street/TX 16.  Turn right on West Live Oak Street.  Turn left onto Kerr Road.  Note: the Gillespie County Airport is south of German Immigration subdivision.
