The Guadalupe River flows past the beautiful Texas landscape located between Kerrville and Fredericksburg Texas real estate and Greater San Antonio.  Along the Guadalupe River, much of the waterfront Texas real estate is private land and you may just find a perfect vacation property in Texas Hill Country while floating by.  Above Canyon Lake, the 23 miles of picturesque waters of the Upper River passes through prime Texas ranches, Texas farmlands, and riverfront Texas homes in Hill Country.

Fed by springs, the water quality is excellent.  The raw splendor of the river is breathtaking.  Considered the gem of all Texas rivers, the Guadalupe River flows over a bed of limestone that begins in Kerr County about 20 miles west of Hunt and continues down to a rocky bed and on towards Canyon Lake in Comal County.  That stretch covers 82 miles but on it goes.  The Guadalupe River then heads to the San Antonio Bay on the Gulf of Mexico on another 300-mile jaunt but is not available for recreation.

The Guadalupe River offers many access points.  Some of the most popular segments include Brinks Crossing in Kerr County to Seidensticker Crossing in Kendall County, Seidensticker to Bergheim, and Lower section from Bergheim to Rebecca Creek, and Canyon Dam to New Braunfels in the Lower Guadalupe.  The river features tame flat water and numerous Class I, II, and III rapids and occasional waterfalls.  From the headwaters to Loop 337 in New Braunfels, the river is used for canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing.

Above Canyon Lake from FM 3351 in Bergheim to Rebecca Creek Road--between Canyon Dam and New Braunfels--the Upper River provides exciting rapids for float trips and tubing adventures.  Newcomers may consider hiring guides or buying group raft rides for safety purposes.  The river can be calm but flash floods can change the environment in minutes.  Everyone needs to wear lifejackets, including people with swimming skills.  Several Guadalupe River outfitters provide raft, tube, and canoe rentals as well as guided float trips.

In the surrounding areas, Hill Country rolls out hospitality in large hotels, charming B&Bs, river cabins, and campgrounds.  The river also meanders through the Guadalupe River State Park where more recreation awaits.
