West of Austin homes, the Texas Highlands Lakes is a chain of seven reservoirs formed by the Colorado River. It extends west to east across the northern reaches of Texas Hill Country real estate to Austin. In addition, north of San Antonio real estate, Canyon Lake and Medina Lake offer exciting boating options.
Most lakes near our central Texas homes feature boat slips where residents and homeowners dock their boats month after month. Other lakes are more suitable for canoeing or kayaking. Boat rentals and jet-skis are available at many lakes, too. A good number of parks also allow boating. They include Inks Lake State Park, Burnet County Park, Black Rock Park, Cedar Point Resource Area, San Marcos City Park, and Robinson City Park. Over 30,000 boats are registered in Travis County alone.
Highland Lakes formed by the construction of several dams on the Colorado River as it winds southeast from its headwaters near the border of Texas and New Mexico to Matagorda Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
