In the heart of Texas Hill Country, beautiful vineyards enrich the landscape in and near historic Fredericksburg real estate.  Dedicated growers and vintners include longtime residents of homes in Hill Country as well as our charming Fredericksburg farms.

It all began in the mid 1600s when Franciscan priests produced sacramental wines from the native grapes.  Currently, vineyards are spread throughout Texas Hill Country real estate, an area north of San Antonio and west of Austin homes.

German immigrants arrived in the latter part of the 1800s, introducing mustang grapes that produced popular varieties of wine.  Nonetheless, Prohibition closed down winemaking until a revival in the late 1970s boosted the industry into subsequent national and international acclaim.  The sunny climes and alkaline soil in Hill Country produce the rich fruitiness of California wines and the acidity and structure of French varieties.

Today's connoisseurs and judges are well aware of Texas wines.  In fact, each year the 200 commercial vineyards and 50 wineries in all 6 viticulture areas within the State of Texas produce more than 1.5 million gallons of wine.

During a tour along Texas Hill Country Wine Trail, tourists sip several types of wine.  Predominant varieties include Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Viognier, Zinfandel, and Sangiovese.  Below are the illustrious vineyards along the trail, most within fifteen miles of town.

Chisholm Trail Winery with its old-fashioned corral overlooks Spring Creek Vineyards. Fredericksburg Winery, operated by the Switzer Family, is on the USA Today's Top Three Producers in Texas list.  Their harvest desserts are also delicious.  The new family operated Rancho Ponte Vineyard is nestled on 20 acres surrounded by cattle and horse ranches.

Grape Creek Vineyards produces premium quality wines from the best of grapes.  In the romantic setting of Torre di Pietra, visitors readily enjoy quality wines, live music, and unique gifts.  Becker Vineyards, featured in Wine Spectator Magazine and The Fine Living Channel, also serves the White House.  Woodrose Winery is just west of Stonewall.

Pedernales Cellars offers wonderful views from a tree-covered deck.  Tour their state-of-the-art winemaking facility with the oldest underground barrel in the state.  Texas Hills Vineyard features Italian-styled "Wines to Share with Friends."  Sister Creek Vineyards is south of town near Boerne.  It offers award-winning, barrel-aged European-style wines made in an 1885 cotton gin.  The scenic Singing Water Vineyards are located on the banks of Bruins Creek and feature a century old barn tasting room.

McReynolds Winery offers award-winning, handcrafted table wines.  Established in 1975, Fall Creek Vineyards is the oldest vineyard and winery operation on the tour.  It is located in the northern portion of the Hill Country.

Additional unique tasting rooms offer plenty of variety for residents and visitors.  For more information about real estate in the area, click here to contact Dale Cook or call 830-997-1035.
