This Texas farmland is not for sale.  Located on Highway 290 seven miles east of historic Fredericksburg TX real estate, the Wildseed Farms exemplify Texas Hill Country land at its colorful best.  Wildseed Farms is a popular attraction for visitors from Austin Texas homes, other Texas locations, and tourists from around the world, a wonderful example of how one farmer developed a parcel of Texas Hill Country real estate.

Over 350,000 visitors annually stop by to see the fields of wildflowers bloom March through October beginning with Texas bluebonnets, red corn poppies, and phlox.  The colorful displays morph into roses, herbs, natives, ornamentals, trees, pumpkins, cacti, and shrubs as the seasons roll on.

There are venues such as The Meadows, flower fields in bloom where visitors explore walking trails, observe farm staff, pick flowers, and create bouquets.  Display gardens demonstrate the use of complementary plantings.  There are places for photographs.

At the Butterfly Haus, a biological habitat supports the life cycle from tiny eggs to caterpillars to chrysalises to adulthood.  Its Farm Store sells specialty foods, gifts, birdhouses.  Wildseed Farms also hosts events and serves at the Brewbonnet Biergarten.  The company produces award-winning catalog of wildflowers, grasses, herbs, and exotic garden-variety seeds.

Highly recognized throughout Texas, the nation, and even internationally, Wildseed Farms is no longer the little start up begun in 1983 by John R. Thomas.  For additional income, Thomas harvested turf seed.  However, he saw the demand for more wildflower seed sources.  Demand from landscape contractors and the highway department, coupled with a general interest in wildflowers prompted Thomas to develop a full-time wildflower farm.

He has not stopped there.  Wildseed Farms hosts live entertainment on Saturdays.  Wildseed Farms has hosted more than 10 annual Wildflower Celebrations in April, complete with chuck wagon-style biscuits and jelly sampling.  Every July, the Gourmet Chili Pepper and Salsa Festival with hot-air balloon, bands and talent, and vendors is a lively event.  Education planting seminars happen in September.  October is the Monarch Butterfly Celebration, when the monarch's journey through Hill Country on the way to winter quarters in Mexico.

As the largest working wildflower farm in the United States, Wildseed Farms dedicates over 200 cultivated acres of local farmland to the cultivation of 88 varieties of wildflower seeds.  The farm utilizes another 800 acres in Eagle Lake for growing, packing, and distributing regional mixes and custom blends.
