Hunt TX homes are nestled in a camping haven located 12 miles west of Kerrville TX real estate in Texas Hill Country.  Known for its resorts, guest ranches, and summer camps, Hunt enjoys a supreme site at the junction of the North and South forks of the beautiful Guadalupe River.  Hunt is an unincorporated town of 700 residents located on Texas 39 in western Kerr County.  From Kerrville, take the picturesque drive west past Ingram to Hunt TX real estate.

Near waterfalls and tall cypress trees, vacation and retirement homes in Hunt are less than an hour southwest of charming Fredericksburg TX real estate, wine tasting, shops, museums, and festivals--a great stop on route through Hill Country.  Primary San Antonio homes are about an hour and a half southeast of Hunt, principal residences in Austin real estate are a little over two hours east.

This makes Hunt a perfect weekend getaway for the professional from the city and the town's economy depends on visitors and part-time residents who own vacation homes near the Guadalupe River.

For almost a century, distinguished private summer camps have taken up residence along the riverbanks in the area, each replete with generations of happy memories at this time.  The inviting Guadalupe River offers abundant swimming areas for residents and visitors escaping the heat of Texas sunshine.

Hunt is the center of a recreational tourist hub.  West of Hunt on the South Fork, on Saturday nights in the summertime, Crider's Rodeo still draws a crowd.  It began in 1925 with the Crider Family hosting a P.T.A. fundraiser on the Fourth of July.  To teach folk dance, a wooden dance floor was built on the lower banks of the Guadalupe River on the Crider property. Accompanied by a rodeo and barbeque, the event became weekly summer event in the early 1930s.

Visitors also happen upon the smaller-than-life replica of Stonehenge built on private property north of town.   A likeness of the English counterpart, Stonehenge II rises up in a rural setting on F.M. 1340.

In search of available farm and ranch lands in the late 1850s, several people moved to this fertile area from nearby Kerrville.  Then called Japonica, they opened a post office north of town, which remained operational until 1918.  In 1913, another post office opened on land owned by R.F. Hunt, along with an adjoining store.  The early residents made good use of the water to farm and the trees to make shingles.

Today's residents enjoy Hill Country recreation at its finest.  For more information about ranches, vacation homes, investment property in the area, click here to contact Dale Cook or call 830-997-1035.
