Nestled in Texas Hill Country 22 miles from Fredericksburg, Kerrville Texas homes are a popular choice for retirement, vacation homes, and settling down to raise families.  The Guadalupe River flows through the city past beautiful parks and neighborhoods of Kerrville TX homes.

An ideal climate makes Kerrville TX real estate popular for health and recreation.  In addition to residential properties, buyers seek Kerrville TX real estate for Texas recreational ranches and summer camps as well as historic Kerrville properties for bed & breakfasts and retail shops to host visitors coming to the Hill Country.  Antique shops, boutiques, restaurants, hotels, galleries, and studios are part of a quaint historic downtown area.

People also come to Kerrville for special events.  For example, artisans and entertainers from around the state draw guests to the annual Texas State Arts and Crafts Fair.  During the summer, folk musicians from the entire U.S.A. liven up the city at the Kerrville Folk Festival.  Jimmie Rodgers, dubbed the Father of Country Music, hails from Kerrville.  Other cultural venues include the Museum of Western Art, Symphony of the Hills, the Point Theater, Cailloux Center for performing arts, and Playhouse 2000.

Perhaps the generations of children who fondly remember attending Echo Hill Ranch Summer Camp, the Texas Lions Camp, or one of the other ten camps in the area, are the best advertisements for Kerrville.  Extended families also enjoy dude ranches and church camps.

Other popular recreation includes a variety of fun activities, from tennis, tubing and swimming to kayaking, shooting, and hunting.  At Kerrville-Schreiner Park, over 500 acres along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, families are boating, fishing, picnicking, camping, swimming, hiking, bird-watching, walking, and cycling.   The Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Course, designed by local resident and nationally recognized golf-course architect Joe Finger is open to the public.

In the middle of town at the Riverside Nature Center, an arboretum and garden features over 100 species of Texas native trees, plants, butterflies, hummingbirds, and more.  Rugged cedar and live oak cover the hills and tall cypress line the streams that flow through the lush green valleys, a wonderful habitat for wildlife and birds.

The bustling small city of over 20,000 started as a settlement called Brownsville when Joshua Brown and several families settled in the 1840s.  Brown created a successful shingle-making camp that served settlers in the Hill Country.  When Major James Kerr formally platted the settlement, the name changed.  It is the county seat of Kerr County.
