Retire to Hill Country recreational land and Leakey TX real estate to experience views from every vantage point and endless recreational options.  From gorgeous scenic drives through winding mountain roads to horseback riding, bicycling, camping and picnics, Leakey real estate and hunting properties offer years of family memories.

Vacation and recreational real estate in Leakey is located beyond the Texas Hill Country communities of Kerrville and Hunt, about 1.5 hours from our Fredericksburg real estate offices, historic downtown, and fabulous events.  Called "the land of 1100 springs," Leakey is also a destination spot.  Texas Hill Country homebuyers wanting turquoise waters and dramatic elevations of Frio Canyon should consider Leakey homes or land.

Located on Highway 337 in the Frio River Canyon, 21 miles from Camp Wood, Leakey is just 100 miles from the San Antonio metro airport and near Real County Airport, site of the National Fly Inn during July where folks go for the Ultra-Lite air flights, hang gliding, and parasailing.

All the way from Leakey to Concan, several river camps and lodges line Frio Canyon, which was formed by the Frio and Nueces rivers.  Both are popular for swimming, tubing, fishing, and boating.  Some people recreate by hunting white-tailed deer, wild turkey, quail, or javelin in the game-rich area former territory of the Comanche and Lipan-Apache tribes as well as prehistoric civilizations.

House hunting is another adventure in these parts.  Dine at the riverfront or downtown.  Stroll through several museums.  Venture out to Garner State Park 10 miles south of town or to Lost Maples State Natural Area on the Sabinal River.  Check out the collapsed cavern at Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area and book a room in a one-of-a-kind inn or guesthouse.  Concan, Vanderpool, Utopia, and Uvalde are other nearby towns.  The River Oaks Golf Course is near Utopia and the largest Texas Live Oak tree in existence is in Rio Frio.

The unique ranching and farming community is one of the most picturesque portions of the Edwards Plateau.  Scenic drives pass through these Swiss Alps of Texas that range from 1,500 to 2,400 feet in elevation.  Enjoy wooded steeps, secluded valleys, fiery autumn leaves, wildlife and birds, or up to Ingram, Hunt and the Guadalupe River and back to our real estate offices.

The town incorporated in 1951.  Beginning in 1884, it was the county seat of Edwards County and then selected as the Real county seat when it formed in 1913.  A few buildings, including the Courthouse, are made of hand-cut native stone reflecting early Hill Country architecture.  Utilizing the rich soil and moderate climate, ranchers raised cattle, sheep, and goats, especially Angora goats prized for excellent mohair.  Farmers grew cotton, and corn.  Abundant cypress and cedar led to the production of wood shingles and lumber.
